Backyard Birds: Looking Through the Glass - What makes this book different from other backyard bird books is that every photograph was taken from inside the photographer's house, looking through closed windows into the yard. This book contains 125 color photos of birds visiting during all four seasons to this one suburban Midwestern home. The superb photography is combined with insightful tips for attracting, watching, and photographing birds, and it's loaded with interesting and often surprising facts about our backyard friends. You'll be amazed what you can see in a typical backyard, just by looking. This book will open your eyes to the beauty of nature that surrounds us.

Glen Apseloff...
More than twenty years ago I became a medical doctor to help people, but before that I became a photographer to help wildlife. I bought my first 35-mm camera in 1981--a Nikon FM--and have been taking photographs ever since. Over the years, my cameras have become more sophisticated, but I try to keep my pictures simple. Iíve traveled as far as Madagascar to photograph animals in their native habitat, but some of my best pictures are from my own backyard. In the movement and daily activities of animals I see a beauty that is all too often underappreciated, or even unnoticed, and through the images I capture, I hope to raise awareness of this and to inspire others to make an effort to preserve the land that is vital to the survival of so many species.

Backyard Birds

Marjorie Sage on April 12, 2013... I read this book because I am familiar with this author as a talented wildlife photographer, and since I live in the same area that he's from, my backyard birds should be similar...right! I've been feeding birds for years, but I've never seen the variety of birds that this author has captured, and his pictures are so good I'm seeing details and differences that I never noticed before. My other bird books are reference books - this one is actually good reading too.

Backyard Birds

Kristen Davidson on April 6, 2013... Great book for both birders and nonbirders. A detailed review of it was written on March 28 on BirdingIsFun.com. A super read for everyone.

Backyard Birds

LizzyD on August 17, 2013... This book have phenomenal pictures, easy read and great to share with friends and family. My niece and mother-in-law absolutely loved their books. They read it from cover to cover. Ages 8-99 would love this book!

Backyard Birds

Jim Sanders on June 20, 2013... Glen has produced an excellent book for all ages. I keep this book on the coffee table for quick reference when I see different species in my own back yard. His details on the bird seed that he found worked best to bring the different birds into his yard is great for the amateur. Even my children have read this book and have now begun watching the birds come and go in our yard.

Backyard Birds

Lyudmila Holmes on June 19, 2013... I enjoyed reading this book from beginning to end. Once I started it, I couldn't put it down and it was a fascinating 2 hour read. The pictures are absolutely amazing. Some of them make you smile, and you want look at them again. I didn't know that we have such a wide variety of birds in Ohio. I also didn't know about the different colors of adult birds and juveniles. The author did an excellent job. This book is a must for nature lovers.

Backyard Birds

luzdeldia... This book is a great find! It is a pleasure to read and anyone with a degree of interest in birds will find it informative and delightful. It is the book to have at hand when simply sitting in one's yard (whether an experienced bird watcher or not). Glen Apseloff did a marvelous job!

Backyard Birds

Grandparent in Ohio... I've owned birds as pets but never realized how many others were right outside my windows. This book shows what we're missing all around us, and the photographs are as good as any I've seen in any nature magazine. It's inspiring.
Since owning this book in the past two months we have now placed several different types of bird feeders in our back yard. When the grand children come to visit they love filling all the bird feeders full of various seeds knowing that they are not only helping take care of their feather friends but also hoping to watch them from the windows and while they play in the back yard. The children love the book as much as we do and they love learning about all the various birds, their habitats, the types of foods they eat and how to attract more of them. The glossy photos are so beautiful that they are truly breathtaking!
The Backyard Birds is for old and young alike and will keep your interest for years to come. Now when we look out the windows and see these beautiful creatures we can more easily identify and appreciate each one. If we don't know the name of a particular bird this book is a quick and easy resource. In fact, we keep this book on the kitchen counter so we can quickly grab it when we need to.
This book has been a lot of fun for our whole family. I hope you enjoy the Backyard Birds as much as we have while passing on an appreciation and admiration of our feather friends for generations to come.
Enjoy!

Backyard Birds

Svetlana K... This book is amazing. Makes me want to set up bird feeders in my yard too! And my 2 year old son loves it too. He is learning the names of different birds from it now.

Backyard Birds

Kim Tolnar... It is amazing the amount of birds showcased in this book! The photographer captured there beautiful colors so that each photograph is a work of art. If you like birds, you will love this book.

Backyard Birds

Rick Apseloff... What a great book!!! The pictures are just amazing down to the detail of being able to see the striations on the birds feathers. And to think that is was all shot from inside the house through closed windows with no special equipment or filters.......increadible. That along with all the helpful tips on how to attract, watch and phtotgraph birds makes this book a must have for everyone.

Backyard Birds

J Walf... This little book does a great job of introducing the reader to many common species of birds with interesting, high-quality (and some unusual) photos, easy-to-read narrative, interesting facts and a nice "personal" window into the author's point of view. The author does a nice job of showing us what is just outside our homes if we only take a moment to watch, and inspires the reader to take time to see the larger world outside and to appreciate the many common birds (and other creatures) that share our back yards. I would highly recommend this book as a great start for anyone, children and adults alike, interested in knowing more about common birds, attracting and feeding them, and identifying the feathered visitors that are a part of our everyday lives.
