Step Five:
I put green on my palette and added a small amount of the underpainting mixture. I glazed over the forms allowing the underlying details to show through the thin layer of paint.
Scumbling or glazing a delineated underpainting gives the finished painting a clean and crisp look. The overlay of one color on top of another color creates a third color. This is called Optical mixing. Optical mixtures presents an extra dimension. The effect is an inner glow that cannot be duplicated with physical mixtures. The difference is striking.
