Painting the center of Interest...Step Eight:
I established the form with an underpainting of raw umber, green and white. This produced a green fairy. The lights (tints) and darks (shades) were painted using raw siena and raw umber. Then a mixture of white with a bit of raw siena was used to paint the tints of the form.
The glow around the fairy was created by softening the edges of the lighted contours, then outlining the shadowed contours. Glazing was used to create the glow effect. I used white with the prussian blue for this mixture.
Sometimes I will utilize an airbrush to create the glow around fairies. It was not necessary for a form this small.
Note: Traditionally green is used as the first coat when painting flesh.
