Step 6 I carefully etched the sea with lines and then inked it. I then refined the look of the sea - I darkened the tops of the swells by crossing over the engraved lines diagnally. This is known as cross hatching. I also stippled in the distant swells and touched up the rest of the sea with additional stippling. Step 7 I drew the flags and then carefully etched them with a newly sharpened stylus.
